THE EVOLVING MINDSET OF A SITH LORD
A Sith will spend their life living outside of their comfort zone because this is the ideal place to learn. A Sith will do this intuitively from birth and when young or new to the path. They don’t realize this is what they are doing. They just know they have those inborn special qualities called stubbornness or rebellion or perseverance that drives them. In their head they only hear “no one can ever tell you, you can’t do something”. Anytime a Sith is confronted with a decision to move forward or not in the face of cynics, intimidation, fear, or peer pressure they always chose to move forward; do what they want to do and never gave in to the dread of the unknown. Nothing is going to stop them.
The one thing many inexperienced Sith lack is discipline. They have interest in a vast array of subjects and they want to try their hand as the most interesting of them. Those that give them true passion. They have high aspirations that they can achieve these things. But over time they realize that they lack the drive, discipline and maturity needed to be successful. So they seek out specific and difficult undertakings to gain these qualities. Death defying engagements, military occupations, world travel, advanced degrees or training, physical or athletic excellence, organizational leadership, anything to gain discipline and insight into what it means to work hard for something they want to achieve.
They learn that going after a demanding goal does not mean lamenting having to accomplish the milestones on the path to achieve it. They begin to approach them with motivation and the idea that they want this challenge. They want to succeed because that improves their character and wisdom and knowledge. A mature Sith welcomes the pain and the loss of short term pleasure in favor of longer term goals because it gives them purpose. They have learned that only this sort of dedication to outstanding effort will get them what they want out of life. No more will they take the comfortable or mediocre road. They will willingly sacrifice those things to achieve their dreams.
With these newfound skills the Sith has acquired, they feel like they can do anything. And they try to do just that. This new place they find themselves in tells them all things are things of passion! They take on an amazing workload. But it does not take them long to realize another valuable lesson in life, that of overconfidence. They have not yet learned balance. True balance tells us that, while anything can be accomplished, not everything can be accomplished. Prioritization becomes a must and situational awareness becomes paramount. Keep what is important in life and let go of the things that are not as important or do not serve. And with this, another milestone in the growth of the evolving Sith emerges.
By this time a Sith has some pretty amazing skills, but they lack discernment. And this takes wisdom. Wisdom is wrapped up in professionalism. A Sith must learn to maintain the concept of keeping a positive professional relationship with subordinates, peers and societal leaders. This is the idea of “never complain without also having a solution to the problem”! Approach subordinates with submission, peers with equality and leaders with humbleness. For a Sith, that defines their own morals, this is not absolute. But in failing to do this one must be absolutely responsible and accept the consequences of their action.
This will not be a perfect undertaking and a Sith will encounter many defeats. But these too are greedily accepted as yet another opportunity for lifelong learning and experience. A Sith’s life is a never ending journey of academic pursuit combined with new life experiences. Taking any and all opportunity to learn a new skill or get their hands on some project or take a class that is interesting or will further their goals in life. They strive to have a “never say no attitude” to any opportunity for leadership, academic learning or life experience. There is no other way for a Sith to live their life.
